The Mass Arts Center is doing a production of William Shakespeare‘s Twelfth Night this Fall – 9 performances Nov 5 – Nov 15. This will be my 100th production at the theater and my seventh (!) Shakespeare collaboration with my friend Steve Dooner, the director. I’ve been back and forth about publicly describing my process of creating an original score, warts and all. Is it really of interest to anybody? Do I want to expose my self-concerns and fears? Sure. What’s the worst that could happen, right?

I’m already three months into the work. So now I’m going to step waaaay out of my comfort zone and try creating a running journal of stuff over the last few months before opening. So hang on, this could get a little bumpy along the way. But I’ll do my best to keep it interesting. And I’d like to hear your thoughts and comments as it moves along.

One of the things I’m going to try is sharing some bits of music and sound design as they evolve over the next few months. These may end up being used directly in the final production, or be modified, or end up in the trash. But that’s the process. Here’s one to start it off:
